Built around 1880, the Ponta do Pargo lighthouse is located at the tip of the west coast of Madeira Island, on a 320m high lookout. It is the highest lighthouse in Portugal, although its structure is only 14m high. It has undergone several modifications over time, changing from an oil lamp to an electrified system in 1958. A small free museum has been available in the annex since the late 1990s.

The point of Pargo
While the lighthouse itself is of limited interest, it is the opportunity to discover the high cliffs of Madeira's west coast that is the focus here. A place not to be missed if you take the ER101 road to the northwest of the island, also very popular for its beautiful sunsets.
