Cable cars

Madeira's cable cars

There are 7 cable cars in Madeira and it would be a shame to miss this attraction when visiting Madeira.

The 2 most famous cable cars are the one in Funchal, which takes you to Monte, a district high up in the capital, and the second one to the Botanical Gardens. Then there are the cable cars on the island, which are slightly more... dizzying! Such as the one to Achada da Cruz, or the one to Cape Girao, for a different experience and sensation.

Funchal cable cars

All public. The first one takes you up to the Monte district from the port, giving you access to the Monte Palace Tropical Garden.
The second one starts right next door and takes you to the botanical garden. It's a bit dizzying but the slope is gentle and accessible. It is a rather unusual way of getting around and also allows you to fly over Funchal.

The Santana cable car: da Rocha do Navio

Vertiginous. A cable car that allows you to descend below the cliffs of the city of Santana, in a natural area called da Rocha do Navio. A view of the cliffs with some waterfalls, the discovery of crops with some uninhabited houses. The whole area is a nature reserve.
