A hike in the heart of Madeira's lush forest: the laurissilva. Head to the North West of the island: the primary forest of Fanal, its laurels and cedars for one of the most amazing and immersive excursions on the island! The Levada Dos Cedros is located on the southern side of the long ridge of about 10-12 km that leads to Ribeira de Janela. It overlooks the valley of the same name, 800 metres below. The ER209 road passes right next to the path.

Where to start the route?
There are different possibilities to discover the route of this levada. I have chosen 2 of them.
The first is to start from the Fanal forest shelter (there is a small car park along the ER209 road). There is also a picnic area nearby. This can be an opportunity to walk around the Pedreira peak for a panoramic view of Chao da Ribeira and Seixal.
The second option is to combine this levada with the vereda de Janela de Ribeira, which starts in the village of the same name, thus extending the route a little.
