The western tip of Madeira Island: Ponta do Pargo, located at the exit of the village of the same name, which offers an impressive viewpoint! Beyond its famous lighthouse and the cliffs to the north and southwest, there is the Garganta Funda site to discover.

The lighthouse of Ponto do Pargo

At the tip of the western tip of Madeira the Ponto do Pargo Lighthouse was built. It has been overlooking the cliff since 1890. It is the ideal place to discover the different viewpoints from the lookouts. It also has a small free museum, and offers an incredible view of the vastness of the ocean.
The cliffs of the southwest coast

The Ponta do Pargo lookout is impressive and walking along the edge of these green cliffs is one of the things to do in Madeira. There is even a path from the miradouro do Fio: the vereda da Faja Grande, which allows you to go down, however you really have to be careful if you want to venture there, the slope is steep!
The North Coast
The viewpoints of the north coast, from the lighthouse, are not to be outdone. It's really worth a look.
A little further north: the miradouro Garganta Funda, an incredible viewpoint on the Garganta Funda waterfall which flows at the foot of the cliff. Without a doubt one of the highest waterfalls in Madeira! Not to be missed.
How to get to Ponta do Pargo?
From Funchal it takes about 1 hour to get to the village Ponta do Pargo and discover the southwest coast of Madeira. It is possible to park directly at the lighthouse, in the car park provided. You can also park at the "Casa de Cha o Fio" café/restaurant at the miradouro do Fio. From here, it is possible to take a short walk along the cliff and up to the lighthouse via the rua do Fio, which allows you to enjoy the view of the entire south coast.
