La magnifique Plage de Porto Santo

Porto Santo Beach

« A must see! Madeira Archipelago »

Porto Santo Island in the Madeira archipelago is nicknamed the Golden Island because of... THIS 9 km long fine sandy beach!

It covers the entire southwest coast, with no pebbles to hurt our feet: sand, sand and more sand! The climate is ideal and there's nothing like going there for a day of relaxation and swimming in the clear turquoise waters, or even surfing! In short, this is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Atlantic. Beware however of the few rocks in the water, and of the danger of the ocean! The beach is supervised by lifeguards in summer on certain sections.

The Praia do Porto Santo is so huge that it is divided into small beaches:

  • Penedo beach, the closest to the port
  • Fontinha beach
  • Cabeço da Ponta beach
  • and finally, the beach of Calheta which is sublime

The water temperature varies between 18° in winter and 23° in August and September. So you can almost swim there all year round, if you are not chilly (although some mornings are chilly...) Many facilities, parasols, bars are available to enjoy a lazy day! And I'm not even talking about the numerous hotel complexes and Thalassotherapy centres.

Exit Madeira Island! If you really want to bask in the sun, enjoy the ocean and get into farniente mode, then Porto Santo is the place to be! Don't hesitate to read this article to discover the small island and to complete your day of relaxation at the beach with a short walk to the tip of Calheta which faces the islet of Cal. Simply a breathtaking view and it would be a shame to miss it.
