Madeira is known as the garden of the Atlantic. And for good reason, the island is an explosion of colours thanks to its climate and its exceptional flora: there are many different and varied flowers on the island, which bloom throughout the year.
Although the best known flowering period is in April/May, with the well known Flower Festival, Madeira can be visited all year round for its endemic flowers. Each season offers its own festival of colours and you will discover the gardens and flowery alleys no matter when you come, the same goes for your walks, whether it's up the mountain, the picos, or along the levadas lined with agapanthus and other flowers of the island.
There are several places to recommend for flower lovers, such as the gardens of Funchal. Among them: the Botanical Garden or the Tropical Garden in the Monte district.
